I'm an event videographer. And I love it.I cut my teeth riding the subway with a car's worth of equipment strapped to my back. Trekking across New York City to every bar, restaurant, and lounge from Harlem to Coney Island. And I adored every second of it.
I've heard a lot of "real" cinematographers gripe about event videography because for them it's a way to pay the bills but it's not their passion. For me it's an art. I love filming people chat and joke and drink and celebrate what brought them all together that sultry Tuesday night. It's as close to filming truth as you'll get. Peering through the viewfinder, focusing in on their souls, the sparkles in their eyes, capturing people really genuinely experiencing the moment. It's magical. I look forward to filling my pack with cameras, lenses, microphones, and returning to my clients a short film of the night they spent weeks and months planning.
